Stunted poultry growth overcome with inoculation
The stunted poultry growth phenomenon in Guyana was first noticed several months ago and subsequent investigations detected a disease in the poultry which caused it.
The unavailability of feed nutrients was also said to be the cause of a large number of dead and stunted chickens. A vaccination drive involving the distribution of vitamin supplements to small scale broiler producers across several regions to combat the stunted poultry growth phenomenon, is proving to be successful and is ongoing, according to the Ministry of Agriculture .
Agriculture Minister, Robert Persaud, said that the Agriculture Ministry would source one million doses of vaccines and planned to work with small poultry farmers who are most affected.
