Poultry association feeds needy mouths at Thanksgiving

A US poultry association offered needy local residents the gift of a special Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, having provided 16 tons of poultry to be distributed through food banks.

The Indiana State Poultry Association presented the food to Governor Mitch Daniels and Lt. Governor Becky Skillman earlier in the week.
The turkeys, ducks, chickens and eggs were distributed to food banks in St. Joseph, Madison, Monroe, Vigo and Marion Counties.
The donation was distributed to five organizations throughout the state. They are: Shepherd Community Center, Indianapolis Food Bank of Northern Indiana, South Bend Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana, Anderson, Catholic Charities Food Bank, Terre Haute and Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Bloomington.
After being presented with a 21-pound turkey grown in Indiana, Skillman issued a challenge to other businesses to make donations this holiday season.
Meanwhile, thousands of volunteers in Minneapolis helped prepare turkeys for the Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels organisation.
