Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ordered local governments to make their main focus taking measures to prevent further bird flu transmission in poultry and humans.

Dung urgently requested that authorities strengthen surveillance of poultry farms – to facilitate early detection of new outbreaks, prompt culling of all affected poultry, and ensure efficient disinfection of affected farms.
Relevant agencies were ordered to vaccinate all poultry in high-risk areas and tighten control of transportation, sale and slaughter of poultry and related products. Border provinces must strictly punish cases of illegal importation of poultry and poultry products, Dung’s statement said.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has also met to discuss bird flu with leaders of the southern provinces of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu where new outbreaks have been reported.
