PETA calls for benign disposal of AI-affected birds

Alabama (USA) is making contingengy plans in the event of an outbreak of bird flu (avian influenza) in the state.

Should bird flu (avian influenza) get loose in Alabama’s (USA) chicken population many birds will need to be eradicated.

With this in mind the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have sent a letter to the Alabama commissioner of agriculture and industries, urging a humane approach to killing birds.

Alabama raises more than a billion each year. The PETA letter pointed out that other countries have resorted to burning and burying chickens alive when faced with the epidemic, a practice that wouldn’t occur in Alabama, state officials said.
