Smuggled poultry destroyed in Nigeria

17-07-2007 | |

Nigeria Customs Service has destroyed 15,800 cartons of frozen poultry products, which were allegedly smuggled into the country.

According to the controller of the federal operations, Dr Kangiwa, the items were valued at N48m (US$380,000).
Kangiwa apparently condemned the spate of smuggling in the country and expressed the determination of the service to stamp out the crime, warning smugglers to desist from the act if they did not want their fingers burnt.
He has urged consumers of imported frozen foods to be aware of the products they consume, because many of the smuggled goods are unhygienic or even expired.
