Chickens given to widows and underprivileged woman

Nine thousand chickens have been distributed among widows and underprivileged women to enable them to earn livelihood for their families.

In Afghanistan, about 600 women, including widows and the underprivileged, have benefited from the 6-month project undertaken by the US-led provincial reconstruction team, which will be completed at the cost of US$109,000.
Each widow has been provided with 15 chickens to run a home-made poultry farm, said Brekhna Yaftali, head of the Marwa Cultural Organisation, which is responsible for the project.
Additionally, the women were taught over a 3-month period how to look after the chickens and make use of them as a source of income.
