In Afghanistan, about 600 women, including widows and the underprivileged,
have benefited from the 6-month project undertaken by the US-led provincial
reconstruction team, which will be completed at the cost of US$109,000.
Each widow has been provided with 15 chickens to run a home-made poultry
farm, said Brekhna Yaftali, head of the Marwa Cultural Organisation, which is
responsible for the project.
Additionally, the women were taught over a 3-month period how to look after
the chickens and make use of them as a source of income.
