Financial reasons are behind Pine Bluff Poultry’s decision to delay the opening of its spent hens processing facility in Arkansas, formerly owned by Tyson Foods.
July was the original date set to open the facility, but was postponed to November. The opening has been delayed to January 2009, due mostly to the ongoing credit crisis, reports state.
Company spokesman Larry Osborn stated that Pine Bluff Poultry has encountered some financing problems, like many others in the US. However, he does believe that there will be a demand for the company’s products when the facility does open.
The new facility, expected to cost $3 mln over the next 2 years, is designed to process spent hens and is expected to create 300 new jobs. Osborn maintains that there will be a demand for Pine Bluff’s products when the facility does open.
