US: Wayne Farms to shut poutry processing plant

20-10-2008 | |

Poultry processor Wayne Farms LLC will phase out its further processing facility in College Park, Georgia. Nearly 600 jobs will be eiminated by the first quarter of 2009.

Wayne Farms CEO and President Elton Maddox said that this move was made based on changing market conditions as well as a variety of business factors.
“Our long-term business strategy includes the most efficient allocation of assets and resources,” he said, adding that closing the plant and moving production to other company facilities will ultimately maximise efficiencies.
The 600 employees affected by the plant closure will reportedly be offered positions at other Wayne Farms facilities when possible.
