USPoultry sets IPE expo education programs
The program committee has developed a versatile agenda for the US Poultry & Egg Association education programs at the 2010 International Poultry Expo.
The poultry industry event is scheduled Jan. 27-29, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
“The committee has recommended a series of sessions that will address important issues facing today’s poultry and egg operations,” said program chairman Jay Houchin, Farbest Farms.
“After discussing a variety of subjects, we feel that the committee has put together an agenda that will examine several key topics.
“The general session in 2010 will take a unique look at Animal Agriculture Under Attack. The session is scheduled Thursday, Jan. 28, from 9-11 a.m.
“For several years now, the poultry industry, along with the other segments of animal agriculture, has been under attack from animal rights activists, environmental activists and other interest groups.
“This program will describe the realities of modern agriculture and how we should respond to the tactics and strategies of the activist groups.”
The program will feature Dr. Wes Jamison, Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida. He has a doctorate in natural resources and agriculture politics and has studied and taught the evolution of agricultural politics at several universities in the US and Europe.
The other featured speaker will be Blake Hurst, a Missouri farmer and author who serves as vice president of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation. He acknowledges that farming can be messy and dirty and “. . . something that critics of industrial farming don’t seem to understand.”

- Georgia Tech OSHA Training Institute, Nutrient Management Plan Workshop: Jan. 28, 9-11 a.m. – Paul Bredwell, USPOULTRY vice president of environmental programs.
- Poultry Market Intelligence Forum: Jan. 29, 9-11 a.m. -Dr. Donald Ratajczak, consulting economist; Mike Donohue, Agri Stats; Dr. Paul Aho, Poultry Perspective.
- FSIS Noncompliance Record Workshops (pre-registration required): Jan. 27, 8-11 a.m.; Jan. 29, 8-11 a.m. – Dr. Al Yancy, USPoultry food safety and production programs vice president.
