Brazil poultry giant puts workers on paid leave

13-02-2009 | |

Brazilian meat processor Perdigao has announced that it will put thousands of poultry plant workers on paid leave. This is the second time this month.

Reports state that 4,220 workers will be directly affected by this decision.

This follows a recent announcement that 2,370 workers at a chicken packing plant in Rio Grande do Sul would be put onto paid leave from 23 March to 22 April.

The company said that while local consumption was not slowing, it was making adjustments to stocks in its chicken production facilities in Mato Grosso do Sul, Parana and Santa Catarina states.
