FDA approves Meridian Campylobacter test

23-02-2009 | |

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Meridian Bioscience’s new test for Campylobacter bacteria.

The test, named Premier Campy, uses a method that measures an antigen instead of the Campylobacter itself, reducing several problems with culturing the bacteria.

The company said it is already marketing the test in Europe, and it recently was approved for distribution in Canada.

Campylobacter causes foodborne illness, often due to undercooked poultry. More than 20 million tests for the illness are conducted annually.
