EU allocated funds to promote agriculture

10-08-2009 | |

The European Commission will contribute €27.8 mln (US$39.6 mln) over 3 years to help European Union (EU) member states promote agricultural products.

The EU’s executive arm said it has approved 16 programmes in 12 member states to provide information and to promote agricultural products in the EU, including organic products, dairy products, meat, wine, fruit and vegetables, olive oil, honey and flowers.  The total budget of the programmes running between 1 and 3 years is €62.1 mln (US$88.4 mln), of which the EU will contribute 27.8 mln.

Under EU rules adopted in 2007, the EU finances up to 50% of the cost of national programmes to promote agricultural products both in the EU and in third countries.
