Poultry giant Venky’s invests in UK football club

Indian poultry giant Venky’s, the flagship company of Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group, sealed a deal on Friday to become the first Indian company to own a club in the English football competition, the Premier League.

Following the take-over of premiership club Blackburn Rovers, the company is now planning to name the club’s football ground after themselves or another sponsor, according to the Indian Express newspaper.

The owners also plan to create a lasting relationship between Blackburn and football in India. Venky’s intend to run training camps for promising young Indian footballers, and may bring Blackburn’s training staff to India with the ultimate aim of sending an Indian player to Blackburn.

Venky’s brand
Anuradha Desai, the chairperson of the Venkateshwara Hatcheries (VH) Group  took the poultry major to the next level of growth, following in the footsteps of the founding father, late Padmashree Dr B V Rao, who established the VH Group in 1971. Desai, also one of the top woman entrepreneurs of the country, has since ensured that the Venky’s brand got stronger. The group has silently marked its presence in many parts of the globe, including the Middle East, Far East, South America (Brazil), Africa, the Carribbean and more recently, Vietnam and Bangladesh, where the group has set up poultry feed mills.

Keeping her father’s vision alive, Desai is persevering towards bridging the gap of nutrition in the country through the model propagated by her father—producing for the masses and not mass production. She had earlier said, “When I look back at the progress of the Indian poultry industry over the past three decades, I feel both a sense of satisfaction and an urge to move forward faster.”
