Plans underway to boost Russian poultry production
Russia plans to build 23 new poultry complexes with capacity of roughly 320,000 mt this year, according to Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik.
According to reports, Skrynnik said that in the next 4 or 5 years, the country will be totally self-sufficient and will not have a need to import poultry meat due to production increases.
The Agriculture Minister added that not only will they be able to meet domestic needs, but will export poultry and poultry products to other countries as well.
Skrynnik predicted Russia will increase domestic meat production by 25% by 2012, while imports drop to 18% of overall consumption. She said Russia will not experience a meat shortage or higher prices because of reduced meat import quotas.
