Newcastle Disease found on layer farm in Sweden

07-02-2011 | |

Newcastle disease (NCD) has been detected on a layer farm on the Swedish island of Gotland.

According to the Swedish agricultural service, 20,000 chickens have been culled and 120,000 eggs have been destroyed.

Only hobby farms are closely situated to the NCD positive farm. The chickens on these farms will be tested.

In Sweden, NCD is currently circulating in doves. Therefore there was a higher vigilance for the disease in commercial poultry operations.
