Preview: IPPE continues to grow

The 2013 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) is going to be the world’s largest convention and trade show for the poultry, feed and meat industry ever. The event will be held from Tuesday through Thursday, January 29-31, 2013, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA and is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors from all over the world.

What, Where and When?

The ‘International Production & Processing Expo’ (IPPE) covering the three integrated tradeshows – International Poultry Expo, International Feed Expo, and AMI’s International Meat Expo – will held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA, USA.



Show hours:

Tuesday, January 29, 2013: 11 am – 6 pm

Wednesday, January 30, 2013: 9 am – 5 pm

Thursday, January 31, 2013: 9 am – 3 pm

The International Poultry Scientifi c Forum to be held January 28-29, 2013 presents information on industry topics such as environmental management, nutrition, physiology, pathology, processing and products, and avian diseases. The cost of the forum is $55 until January 6, which includes the Expo registration fee. After January 6, the cost increases to $70.

Atlanta is traditionally the home to the International Poultry Expo (IPE) each January. The IPE is the world’s largest convention and trade show dedicated to the poultry industry. Attendees and exhibitors are chicken producers and processors of broilers, turkeys, ducks,eggs, and breeding stock from all over the globe. In 2013 the IPE is celebrating 65 years of continual exhibition services to the poultry industry. For a few years now the IPE partners with the International Feed Expo and will in 2013 extend its scope by adding the International Meat Expo.



The three integrated tradeshows — International Poultry Expo, International Feed Expo, and AMI’s International Meat Expo – presented under the umbrella name ‘International Production & Processing Expo’ (IPPE) will be aligning the interest of the entire industry spectrum at one convention and trade show at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA, USA. The event will be held from Tuesday through Thursday 29-31 January, 2013.



Huge response

Preliminary fi gures tell that the 2013 IPPE has surpassed 1,100 exhibitors, covering more than 420,000 net square feet (21+ acres) of exhibition space. “We thought integrating the shows made sense, the excitement for the show has been overwhelming and the response has been even better than imagined,” remarked John Starkey, president of USPoultry. He added that the IPPE has instantaneously established itself as the premiere feed and protein event in the western hemisphere. The Expo will highlight the latest technology, equipment, and services used in the production and processing of poultry, meat and feed products.



AFIA President & CEO, Joel G. Newman agreed by saying: “The 2013 IPPE will off er an outstanding venue for businesses to collaborate, network, learn about new products and services and solve common challenges facing the feed, poultry and meat industries. With the response so far, we expect attendees will agree that it is worth their time to come to Atlanta.” AMI President, J. Patrick Boyle  commented with: “We are gratifi ed by the positive show of support from our supplier community. It tells us that our consolidation of shows is a winning formula for the entire industry, farm to fork.” The 2013 edition of the IPE will enjoy the presence of the ‘Showco’ members who prefer to be present only every second year. These companies providing inputs for the poultry industry are present only in the odd years.



Educational programmes

Besides the exposition the IPPE will feature dynamic education programmes that will be held from Monday 28 January through Friday 1 February 2013 and will include the annual line-up of the International Poultry Scientific Forum, Pet Food Conference, Animal Agricultural  Sustainability Summit, and International Feed Education Programme. The 2013 IPPE will also feature eleven new educational programmes: Recalls and Public Health Investigations; Improving Food Safety, Sanitation and Maintenance; Animal Care and Handling: Focus on Poultry  Processing; Meat and Poultry Processing: A Global Perspective; Consumer Trends; Plant Operations and Management; Antibiotics Conference – Current Issues for the Poultry & Egg Industry; The Future of the US Egg Industry; Meat & Poultry Research Conference; Media Training for the Meat & Poultry Industry; and Poultry Handling and Transportation Quality “Train the Trainer” Workshop. Also returning for this year is the Poultry Market Intelligence Forum and the International Rendering Symposium.



Poultry School en espanol

The University of Georgia is organising the Poultry School en espanol 2013 course to be held February 1- 6, 2013, in Athens, GA. The six-day course will immediately follow the International Poultry Expo and will address current topics, such as best avian practices, processing and technology developments, food safety, valueadded processing, quality of poultry products, packaging and culinology. Registration for the course is USD $1,200 until December 14, 2012. After December 14, the registration fee will be $1,400. Registration is open until January 19, 2013. Registrants who sign up for the Poultry School en espanol 2013 course will also receive registration to the 2013 International Poultry Expo.

IPE and UGA partner on poultry education programme

The International Poultry Short Course 2013 will be held immediately following the IPE from February 1 -5, 2013, in Athens, GA. The conference course is created by the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia. It will cover a broad range of topics for individuals new to the poultry industry, as well as for experienced professionals. In addition to formal instruction, demonstrations in various areas of poultry science will be conducted at the university research facility in Athens. During this programme, participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts in many areas. Registration for the course is $795 and includes all luncheons, dinners and basic materials for the course. Space is limited, and registration closes on January 18, 2013. Poultry care conference

The American Meat Institute and US Poultry & Egg Association will host a conference for poultry processors: Animal Care and Handling – Focus on Poultry on Monday 28 January, from 1– 5 pm. The programme will provide poultry processors with in-depth instruction on best practices for poultry handling and transportation, current stunning systems technology, and will address factors that can impact welfare and aff ect poultry quality. Dr Yvonne Vizzier Thaxton of the University of Arkansas will present on ‘Stunning Systems for Chickens and Turkeys’. Dr Sarge Bilgili of Auburn University will discuss ‘Factors Affecting Chicken and Turkey Quality’. Dr Karen Christensen of OK Foods will provide an ‘Overview of NCC, NTF, and UEP Animal Care Guidelines’, and Dr Eva Pendleton of Pennsylvania State University will present on ‘Broiler, Layer and Turkey Handling & Transport Quality Assurance’.

IME off ers free educational programmes

The American Meat Institute (AMI) has announced the complete schedule of free education programmes at the IPPE. These programmes cover pressing meat and poultry issues:

  • The Meat and Poultry Processing: A Global Perspective programme will off er a breakdown of the latest regulatory developments, an examination of the impact of a food safety event, the latest information on the global food safety initiative, equivalency issues with Brazil and an update on CODEX.
  • Meanwhile, the Consumer Trends programme will provide attendees results of new consumer trends research, a thoughtful look at the impact the economy has had on meat and poultry purchases, and how to provide consumers with the products and programmes that will keep them as long-term repeat customers.
  • Finally, the Operations and Management forum will off er a series of courses designed to give  managers real solutions to critical challenges, such as commodity inventory risk management and packaging for operational success.
