Perten’s NIR system receives USDA sanitary design approval

Perten Instruments has received certificate of approval for use of its DA 7300 in-line analyser for use in meat and poultry installations.

The DA 7300 in-line NIR analysis system received certification from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Dairy Grading Branch, Equipment Design Review Section that the instrument is in compliance with NSF/ANSI/3-A 14159-1-2010 Hygiene Requirements for the Design of Meat and Poultry Processing Equipment. The approval means that the instrument can be installed and used in meat and poultry facilities requiring sanitary designed instruments and equipment.

The DA 7300 is a diode array based NIR instrument designed for use in food and agricultural environments. It continuously analyzes moving products for parameters such as moisture, protein, fat and others. The analysis results are sent to a plant’s process control system for automatic plant optimisation or are read out to a display screen for manual adjustment. The DA 7300 incorporates a real-time video camera with separate illumination for a unique view directly into the process. The video can be viewed on a computer attached to the system’s network – be it in the same building or thousands of miles away.

“The USDA design approval further demonstrates our on-going commitment to excel with our on-line/in-line NIR products. This includes formalised testing and certification for both sanitary design and hazardous location requirements,” said Ralph Hewitt, Manager of Perten’s US Process Instrumentation Group.
