Iran plans to resume poultry exports
The Iranian government is to lift the ban on exporting poultry that was implemented two months ago. The ban was placed amid fears that the active meat supply abroad could lead to a deficit on the domestic market.
Recently, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade said that poultry exports will resume after the New Year holidays, which are celebrated in Iran at the end of March.
The prohibition was necessary in order to stop the growth of prices in the market, the domestic trade minister Radmard Hassan explained. The country has found itself in very tough economic conditions following the trade sanctions of the EU and USA.
The representatives of the local poultry producer confirmed that currently exported of poultry meat still banned but after the New Year holidays exports of these products will be fully resumed.
Last year, Iran delivered about 20,000 tonnes of poultry products to neighbouring countries, primarily Iraq and Pakistan. This year, the country will produce about 1 mln tonnes of poultry, which is still insufficient to completely meet the domestic demands.
