Poultry meat production in Azerbaijan has increased by more than 1.5 times over the past three years and reached 97,300 tonnes following governmental investments in the sector, a report from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture states.

Meanwhile, production of poultry meat on industrial farms more than doubled during this period and rose by 55,000 tonnes per year. The report adds that the government will continue to support poultry farming so these figures are projected to grow.

The government has allocated 98 mln manat (US$124 mln) in the form of soft loans. This money has been invested in the construction of 39 poultry farms with the total production capacity of 55,000 tonnes of chicken meat per year, 84 million breeding eggs and 164.5 million commodity eggs per year. According to official information 28 of them have already been put into operation and the remaining 11 are expected to be launched during 2014.

In addition, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Society of Poultry Breeders of Azerbaijan during a recent meeting decided to establish a joint working group to consider possible ways of further development of poultry meat. The Working Group will examine the current status of the poultry industry in the country and prepare proposals for the intensive development of the sector.
