Despite the political instability in January-February 2014 the number of poultry stock in Ukraine grew by 10.9% on year-to-year comparison to 226 million heads, according to the recent report of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.

The largest growth rate has been registered in the Kherson region, where the number of poultry stock during this period rose by 1.7 times to 11 million heads. Also, a significant increase was observed in the Nikolaev region where the increase amounted to 49% up to 4 million heads, Vinnitsa (+35%, 21.7 million heads) and Khmelnitsky region (+24%, 12 million head).

However, experts warn that in the near future the pace of growth in the country’s poultry industry may slow down due to the fact that the new government has abolished subsidies on livestock and poultry industry development.

According to the former Minister of Agriculture Mykola Prysyazhnyuk specified subsidies that were paid to the poultry and livestock producers gave a powerful impetus to the development of the industry. As a result, in 2013, poultry production in the country increased by 6.8 % compared to the level of 2012.
