Kazakhstan to launch its largest poultry farm
Kazakhstan is to build its largest poultry farm with the capacity of 20,000 tonnes of poultry per year, near Astana – the capital of the country.
The construction, being implemented by the Akmola Phoenix Company, has already started and will continue until the middle of 2015, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Asylzhan Mamytbekov, recently announced.
It is thought that in the future the capacity of the farm will be doubled to 40,000 tonnes of poultry per year. This will completely cover the needs of Astana and supply large amounts of poultry products to Russia.
The new farm will account for 25% of all poultry production in the country and will up the level of self-sufficiency of Kazakhstan from 50% to about 70%. The representatives of the project also reported that at the all facilities of the farm will be installed equipment from leading European manufacturers. The investment cost of the project amounts to KZT 12 bn (US$ 65 mln).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there are currently 59 poultry farms operating in Kazakhstan, including 21 farms focused on the production of broiler meat, 33 on the production of eggs, and five farms which are combined.
In 2013 the volume of poultry meat production in the country rose by 10% to the level of 128,300 tonnes.
