Quota system for US poultry import to South Africa

The dispute between South Africa and the United States about import of poultry has been resolved. The new quota system for US poultry paves the way for the renewal of a key trade agreement between the US and South Africa, but is likely to threaten South Africa’s domestic chicken producers, reports allAfrica.

A ‘chicken war’ between the US and South Africa resulted from accusations that US poultry producers had been dumping cheap chicken into the South African marketplace, hurting domestic producers who could not compete on cost.
