Malaysian Govt. curbs feed costs to ensure poultry supply
The Malaysian Government is to address the increasing cost of chicken feed in a bid to reduce the price of chicken, local newspaper The Star is reporting.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said chicken feed made up 70% of the cost incurred by poultry farmers. Malaysia is self-sufficient as far as chicken production is concerned and is also exporting poultry meat, he added.
During a press conference he announced that the ministry will meet poultry farmers to ensure supply of chicken in the country is sufficient. The price of chicken has increased to RM8.50 per kilo in the past two months in some wet markets compared to about RM7 in March due to the spiralling global prices of soya bean and corn in animal feed.
