Pilgrims Pride facing more staff layoffs

US poultry processor, Pilgrim’s Pride may lay off or relocate as many as 400 workers in two of its Tennessee plants local media is reporting.

Officials at the poultry processing company say the job cuts are due to improved plant efficiencies, and there are no plans to scale back production. The company operates two downtown Chattanooga plants that currently employ nearly 1,500 workers.

These latest cuts follow an announcement last week that the company would lay off 85 employees in Chattanooga. Margaret McDonald, a spokeswoman for Pilgrim’s Pride, said the company has not decided how many more workers will be laid off.

The company says it will not cut back on orders from contract growers in the Chattanooga area.
