A significant increase in the level of production of chicken and eggs in Tajikistan has led to a reduction of imports of these products from abroad reported the general director of the state unitary enterprise “Ptitseprom”, Ministry of Agriculture of the republic of Tajikistan Mashokir Nazarov.

According to him, the development of the poultry industry was the reason for the significant reduction of the import of eggs. Nazarov also pointed out that recently reconstruction on a number of abandoned poultry farms, will lead to increasing the number of hens and egg production every year. The commissioning of these farms will have a great impact on the industry and lead to the volume of poultry production increasing by three fold.

“In the first 9 months of this year the 34 poultry farms of the Republic produced 129 million eggs and 351,900 tonnes of poultry, which is by 14.8 million eggs and 242,100 tonnes of meat higher than the first 9 months of 2011. Import of eggs is almost completely abandoned, while the import of chicken meat decreased slightly” said Nazarov.

The Ministry of Agriculture also reported that currently only two poultry processing plants are involved in the production of chicken meat. Therefore, currently the country suffers from the lack of processing power.

By the end of the year there are plans for commissioning two new poultry factories in Kanibadam and Kulob regions of Tajikistan, with the total capacity of 400 tonnes each.

“The construction of the poultry farms is scheduled to be starting in Shahritusskom and Panj districts of the country. Currently one kilogram of chicken meat production in local markets costs 15 somoni (US$ 3.14)” concluded the Ministry of Agriculture.
