Focus Brands and Groupe Le Duff abandon eggs from caged hens

Food conglomerates Focus Brands and Groupe Le Duff have pledged to source 100% of their eggs and egg products from cage-free hens and will eliminate the use of battery cages in their supply chains.

Driven by consumer demand, global companies and industry leaders worldwide are increasingly focusing on improving welfare of chickens in their supply chains. Focus Brands and Groupe Le Duff have now joined the movement.

“We’re pleased to see both Focus Brands and Groupe Le Duff take such a positive step towards improving its treatment of animals,” says Aaron Ross, vice president of policy and strategy, The Humane League. “Consumers all around the world have been demanding better, and these companies are taking the necessary action by committing to remove cruel battery cages from their supply chains.”

According to Alexandria Beck, director of Open Wing Alliance, due to the massive size of Focus Brands’ and Groupe Le Duff’s global supply chains, these commitments to exclusively source cage-free eggs will go a long way toward better animal welfare of millions of hens worldwide. “This policy involves some of the most influential brands—including bakeries that use more eggs than most restaurants. It’s evident that cage-free is becoming the future of the food industry.”

Focus Brands

Focus Brands is a developer of global multi-channel foodservice brands, including Cinnabon, Auntie Anne’s, Carvel and Schlotzsky’s. They operate in over 6,000 locations across 60 countries. Focus Brands released a global cage-free commitment for all of its brands and locations, with an agreement to transition from battery cages in the US and Canada by 2026 and worldwide by 2028.

Groupe Le Duff

A French conglomerate with over 1,300 locations around the world, Groupe Le Duff owns several restaurant and agri-business brands including the French bakery, Brioche Dorée. Groupe Le Duff has agreed to transition from battery cages by 2025 for all of its brands and locations globally.
