Turning big data into smart data from a practitioner's view
Maarten De Gussem, DVM, Global Poultry Consultant Vetworks

  • In modern poultry production huge amounts of information are generated through automated data collection
  • These data can be used to make improvements in an evidence-based way
  • Innovative techniques in smart farming help to collect, process and analyse data to predict problems at an early stage

In 2009, Vetworks was founded by Maarten, servicing the poultry industry with a global team of specialists and providing support on poultry health topics all over the world, with focus on mycoplasmosis, general gut health and coccidiosis.

Besides his work at Vetworks, Maarten is also an academic adviser at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University. And a member of scientific committees of Poultry Mycoplasma Conference and of IHSIG Conference on Poultry Intestinal Health.

Monitoring the risk and true impact of mycotoxins to animals with a novel data-driven diagnostic service in blood & feed
Dr. Christos Gougoulias, head of Innovation Innovad

  • Myco-Marker®: a patent pending service that reveals the True Overall Exposure of animals to mycotoxins and a supportive diagnostic tool that assesses, both in feed & blood, the Overall Impact of mycotoxins on Animal Health and Performance
  • RISK: Analytical Detection of key mycotoxins and their derivatives in feed with the highest accuracy (LC-MS/MS detection)
  • IMPACT: Analytical Detection of the true exposure of animals (avian & swine) to mycotoxins and their metabolites (biomarkers of exposure) via dried blood spot (DBS) examination with the highest accuracy (LC-MS/MS detection)

After receiving his BSc degree in Food Science & Technology at Tessaloniki, Greece, Christos started as a business development manager at Chr-Hansen A/S at the Greek Headquarters. He received his MSc degree in Food Biotechnology from the University in Reading (UK) in 2003 and fulfilled his PhD in Food and Human Gut Microbiology (probiotics) in 2007. He became a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Reading and researched soil microbial ecology.

He continued his research at Syngenta UK where he developed novel regulatory lab test systems for the evaluation of dissipation of pesticides.
