Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been reported at farms in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, the Indian veterinary authority has confirmed.

Of the 2149-strong flock at Anjora, the poultry production unit at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Durg, 464 birds died as a result of the outbreak. The remaining birds were culled a precautionary measure.



At a government poultry farm in Jagadalpur, there were 3600 affected birds including 2392 deaths in the flock of 6293.



The Chhattisgarh health department has issued instructions to all chief medical officers (CMOs) to keep a strict watch on all cases showing symptoms akin to bird flu and experts have been sent to assess the situation.



The government has banned the movement of livestock across the state’s borders in view of the disease spreading among chickens.
