Elanco introduces new strategy against red mite

Animal health company Elanco introduced a novel strategy against red mite at SPACE.

One application of the product, called Elector, can give total control over red mite infestation for up to 12 weeks, thanks to a new mode of action. The product works on a different part of the insect’s nervous system.

This different mode of action requires the parasite to adapt to two different nerve site (receptors) instead of one, making it hard for the mite to survive.

Furthermore, the product has a continued effect, as the mites are exposed twice. First, the mites come into contact with the active ingredient when their hiding place has been sprayed, and later, during their migration across treated surfaces.

This dual exposure has a significant advantage: Fewer applications are needed to control the parasite. Above all, the product is safe, and it can be used during laying. Eggs, produced during spraying, do not need to be discarded.

SPACE is held in Rennes, France, from 10-13 September.
