Merial launches in ovo vaccinator during Paris forum

Another ‘in ovo’ vaccination machine is on the market. Named ‘Ovo-Jector Vaccinator’, the new device was introduced this week during the Merial Avian Forum in Paris, France.

The Ovo-Jector was developed in Brazil by the Vaccination Technologies and Services division (VTS) of animal health company Merial. It has a capacity of up to 35,000 eggs/hour. By that, the Ovo-Jector is a relatively small machine, making in ovo vaccination accessible to smaller sized hatcheries.

The Ovo-Jector is a compact machine with automated egg transfer. It is provided with solenoid pump technology and a user friendly touchscreen. Each injector is equipped with a sensor to sense whether an egg is present, in order to deliver vaccine into the egg and prevent vaccine waste. Often these are infertile eggs, which have been recognised as clear eggs. The Ovo-Jector will exclusively be marketed through the global Merial network.

The Merial Avian Forum is being held for the third time and has become an international annual event already. All kinds of poultry veterinary topics are addressed in plenary sessions, with speakers from all over the world. This years’ edition attracted over 500 poultry veterinary specialists from 68 nationalities.
