Visit to the Rondeel layer farm
The Rondeel farm in Barneveld is a unique and modern layer farm, specially designed to meet and satisfy the natural needs of chickens. During the tour you will see that the hens can sit on perches in the night quarters, enjoy sunlight and fresh air in their living quarters and bathe in the dust in a dedicated wooded area. The eggs are packed on site and sold by a major Dutch supermarket chain. The farm also has conference rooms and is open to the public.
Visit to hatchery Lagerwey
Lagerwey is a leading broiler hatchery in The Netherlands, located near the village of Lunteren. The hatchery is used by customers from all over the world to witness expertise from Dutch soil. At the Lagerwey facility a dazzling 1.8 million eggs a week are hatched. They have recently started with selling PlusFour chicks, hatched from the HatchBrood system. This means that the customer can choose between regular one day chicks or whether the chicks get their first start by PlusFour.
2. Pig farming
Druijff breeding farm, Voorthuizen
The first stop of this tour will take visitor to a 500 sow breeding farm in Voorthuizen, about 40 km east of Utrecht. It is here that two recent innovations by Netherlands-based pig equipment manufacturer Vereijken Hooijer can be admired. First, the Date Gate, an automatic circuit for one or more boars for both stimulation and insemination. In addition, there is also the VariPlus, a movable farrowing flooring system. Designed for piglet protection, the system pushes up the sow’s floor as soon as she stands up.
