Thailand poultry farms to be disinfected

20-11-2006 | |

Provincial livestock authorities have been ordered by the Thailand government to disinfect poultry farms in order to prevent f bird flu, which has had a devastating effect on the local poultry industry, according to a government official.

Recent flooding in the central provinces has resulted in the move to disinfect farms, even though Thailand has been bird-flu free for more than three months, according to the head of the Department of Livestock Development Yukol Limlamthong.
He said that all farms have been ordered to disinfect as the flood waters recede.
Thailand and the governments of its neighbouring countries – Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma) and Malaysia – also recently agreed to work together to prevent possible outbreaks, Yukol said.
The nations have agreed to cooperate closely and to exchange information openly.
