Poultry rest day in Hong Kong set for May 25

24-05-2006 | |

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department reminds sellers and shoppers that the next poultry rest day falls on May 25.

Operators of market stalls and fresh provision shops selling live poultry must suspend business in the afternoon and evening for thorough cleaning and disinfection. Retailers should strictly observe rest day conditions and ensure all live birds remaining in their stalls or shops are slaughtered before noon.

Stall owners and licensees must not remove any unsold live poultry from their premises to avoid slaughtering them before the start of the rest day. The department will inspect each poultry outlet. Those who breach the conditions may have their shop licences or tenancies terminated.
