01-08-2006 | |

Tamil Nadu poultry farmers in India will have access to 25,000 tonnes of maize from the Food Corporation of India at an issue price of 550 rupees for 100 kg.

This is part of the 100,000 tonnes of maize released by the Union Government to be distributed immediately to the poultry farmers to tide over the high price situation. The release of 100,000 tonnes is on top of the 450,000 tonnes already approved for distribution to the poultry sector through the tender route.

Of this, 50,000 tonnes will go to the poultry farmers in Andhra Pradesh and another 25,000 tonnes to Maharashtra, according to Mr Valsan, Secretary of the All-India Poultry Products Exporters Association.

According to Mr Valsan, the maize will be routed through the animal husbandry departments in the respective States, also at a provisional price of 550 rupees per 100 kg.
