Russia lifts poultry import ban
Russia has lifted its ban on poultry products from
Hungary. The ban was imposed after an outbreak of avian influenza in Hungary
earlier last year.
Some parts of the ban have been lifted in certain areas since October, but
the ban has now been lifted fully, with effect from 1 January.
During the ban, restrictions were imposed on live poultry, poultry meat and
poultry products which had not undergone thermal treatment, and hatching eggs.
Restrictions also applied to poultry equipment.
Similar bans were imposed by Japan and China, after the highly-pathogenic
H5N1 strain of
avian
influenza was discovered in domestic fowl in two Hungarian counties in June
of last year.
