BEMB funds poultry research projects

The BEMB Research and Education Trust is now providing additional funds aimed at tackling three key poultry health problems, namely red mite, E. coli and Spirochaetosis.

The British Egg Marketing Board (BEMB) Research and Education Trust has allocated more money into an existing 3-year PhD project at Moredun Research Institute looking to develop a vaccine effective against red mite, the title of the project being “Identification of vaccine candidates against poultry red mite, Dermanyssus gallinae”.
BEMB will also sponsor a 4-year PhD project at Veterinary Laboratories Agency, entitled “Intervention Strategies for avian spirochaetosis”.
Additionally, the BEMB Research & Education Trust has undertaken to sponsor initial work at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, a year-long project aimed at the development of rational inactivated vaccines against E.coli for use with poultry.
