Olathe welcomes $40 million research laboratory
Fort Dodge Animal Health, specialising in vaccines,
medicines and other products for pets and livestock, plans to build a $40
million research and development facility in Olathe.
The 150,000-square-foot project, which will be staffed by more than 200
top-level scientists and employees and will include laboratories and offices, is
expected to open in 2009.
President of the company, E. Thomas Corcoran, said that the facility will
allow Fort Dodge to expand its existing research efforts and draw on the
business and academic resources in the area.
The Kansas Bioscience Authority will provide Fort Dodge 30 acres at the
north end of the bioscience park and up to $3.5 million in incentives. The
company will also receive assistance through two Kansas Department of Commerce
programmes, enterprise zone tax credits, property tax credits and sales tax
exemptions.
Additionally, civic leaders said the Fort Dodge complex is an endorsement
of their efforts to attract new businesses and encourage the expansion of the
more than 100 area companies involved in the animal health industry.
