The Netherlands – poultry market looking better
A rise in consumption has lead to higher chicken prices. Following a dip in production in 2006, the market has now stabilised. However, higher input costs do not mean higher incomes for producers.
Domestic production of chicken meat in the Netherlands fell 1% in 2006, to 547,000 tonnes carcase weight, and is expected to remain at this level throughout the coming months. This compares with a 3% decline in the EU-25, in 2006, to around 8 million tonnes. It is expected that production will increase by about 1.5% over the course of 2007.
