UN adopts new food hygiene standards for poultry
A UN food commission recently revised hygiene rules
for eggs and egg products with the aim of preventing diseases. There are also
plans to develop more guidelines for making bacterial contamination in chicken
The Codex Alimentarius Commission
, which sets food
standards, will consider more guidelines on salmonella and campylobacter
bacteria in poultry, according to a statement by the UN Food and Agriculture
Organisation and the World Health Organisation.
"Finding efficient ways of dealing with this problem, from farm to table,
could result in the prevention of hundreds of thousands of food-borne disease
cases every year," said the statement.
