Bird flu claims 200 lives

It is being reported that the worldwide death toll caused by avian influenza now stands at 200.

An Indonesian man has died of bird flu after slaughtering an infected chicken, according to health officials.
The 33-year-old plantation worker from Sumatra province had been hospitalised for nearly 10 days with a high fever, coughing and breathing difficulties.
Tests confirmed he had the virulent H5N1 strain of the illness.
According to the World Health Organisation, this Sumatra man is the 200th person to die, out of 327 known infections worldwide.
Indonesia has been hardest hit by the virus since it began ravaging poultry across Asia in 2003. Its human death toll has now climbed to 85.
