CPF’s compartment systems awarded OIE certification

04-04-2008 | |

Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) chicken processing compartments in Nakorn Ratchasima, covering 15 farms, have been awarded Livestock Development Department certificates

This certificate confirms their compliance with the guidelines of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), to-date the “first” Thai processor to do so, following Thailand’s selection by the OIE as a pilot country.
To improve industry standards, the country’s chicken industry adopted the OIE compartment system in 2006 to which 23 poultry processors and exporters, combining 991 farms, raising 104.16 million chickens and ducks, have to-date applied.
Inspections certifying more processing compartments will be speeded up to bolster Thai chicken safety standards among buying countries, especially on raw chicken, says Livestock Development director-general, Sakchai Sriboonsue.
