Cuban poultry industry takes a hit from the hurricanes
According to a Cuban news agency, poultry and egg production in the region
has fallen 50% in the wake of hurricanes Gustav and Ike over the past 2
weeks.
It is reported that at least 93 poultry farms have been completely
destroyed and 298 of the remaining 390 farms were very badly damaged.
Additionally, many poultry farmers were forced to slaughter birds early due
to the storm, and many of the remaining birds have stopped laying because of
stress.
