US turkey processing plant shuts down
Due to high input costs such as feed and fuel, the Nebraska Turkey Growers
Cooperation will soon close the doors of its turkey processing
The processing plant, which processes more than 20,000 turkeys a day, will
continue operations until December.
"We do plan to be back in operation. We aren't going away," Bill Bevans,
chairman of the Nebraska Turkey Growers Cooperation. "The future is still
unknown, but our hope is that sometime by late spring, the environment will have
Bevans states that restarting the plant depends on turkey prices, because
he does not count on feed prices going down in the near future.
