The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) has approved the application of an organic selenium product for use in organic feeding programmes in the US.

The product, Sel-Plex 2000, and manufactured and produced by Alltech, is an organic selenium source in animal diets, including pigs and poultry.

Steve Traylor, global director of regulatory affairs, said that his company “is committed to registration and upholding regulatory values in markets around the world.”

Traceable solutions

“With a dedicated focus to standard and specialised regulatory issues, Alltech can offer our customers the piece of mind that they can confidently use a product that is not only well researched, but one that has gone through the proper channels and declared safe for sale. We offer high quality, traceable solutions that can be incorporated in a variety of feeding programmes.”

The USDA states: “Consumer demand for organically produced goods has shown double-digit growth for well over a decade, providing market incentives for US farmers across a broad range of products. Organic products are now available in nearly 20,000 natural food stores and nearly three of four conventional grocery stores. Organic sales account for over 3% of total US food sales, according to recent industry statistics.”
