Czech geese infected with bird flu

A gaggle of 700 geese have been culled in Cxech Republic following the discovery of a bird flu virus.

Control tests will decide about the fate of another roughly 2,300 geese and about 350 wild ducks, said local vet Ivan Prikryl.

The birds were killed by gas in special containers, said local vet authority head Jaroslav Salava said.

The avian influenza virus was discovered by local vets when checking the breeding of waterfowl in Rybarstvi. Of the 60 randomly checked geese, 9 were infected byt he virus.
