Bangladesh: Chickens culled, bird flu

Approx. 3,000 chickens have been culled in Bangladesh following the discovery of bird flu at a poultry farm in the country's Southeastern Cox's Bazar district.

Officials from the centre informed the District Livestock Office that bird flu virus was found in samples, said Officer Dr Zaker Ullah, adding that they collected samples from the poultry farm and sent them for testing to the Regional Livestock Research Centre in Feni.

Poultry birds at other farms in the area are being examined to determine whether they are suffering from the avian influenza virus as well.

The district livestock officers had hoisted red flags and banners in the affected areas and restricted public entrance there.
