PREVIEW – 2009: 21st Latin American Congress on Poultry Farming, Havana, Cuba

Securing future food supply

“Food safety: an assurance for the future” will be this year’s theme at the 21st Latin American Congress on Poultry Farming (ALA), which will be held in Havana, Cuba from 6-9 October. This congress on poultry farming is said to be one of the most important biennial event for the Latin American poultry industry.

The ALA organizing committee is proud to have the biennial congress and show in Cuban capital Havana. Cuban poultry producers, who believe are deeply committed to producing food for the people, now face a bigger commitment, to host and event that will help bring together the Latin American poultry community.    
 
Today, the Latin American Poultry industry has a strong impact on fulfilling the demand for food. For this reason, the importance of these kinds of meetings is bigger than ever before, not only as a place to exchange knowledge, or to promote scientific and technological development generated by the sector itself, but also as a place to achieve consensus for policies and strategies to be player on the international market.
 
Scientific programme
The scientific programme has been organised in such a way that will ensure that the attendees can receive updated information about the most important issues concerning the poultry sector at both a regional and global level. The congress will be honoured by the participation of over 50 professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs, whose presentations will aim to provide updated knowledge and experiences about subjects like health, nutrition, management, genetics, reproduction and incubation, processing, environment, food industry matters, etc.  
 
One of the features is the international pre-congress workshop titled “Challenges for veterinary medicine and zootechnical studies in view of the vertiginous growth of poultry production – their commitment to food safety”, which is expected to be attended by under and postgraduates students of Veterinary Medicine and Zootecnichs, as well as professors at centres of higher studies.
 
Avimundo Fair
Avimundo, the international poultry fair, will be held alongside the ALA congress in the PABEXPO fairgrounds. The PABEXPO exhibition centre is located in Reparto Siboney, which is very close to the Convention Palace. The fair site spans a total area of approx. 20,000 square meters and has five air-conditioned interconnected spacious halls as well as conference rooms.
 
The congress organizing committee and especially the Avimundo Fair, are committed to providing both exhibitors and visitors with the opportunity to benefit from establishing useful contacts. The organisers’ mission is to create an atmosphere of exchange and cordiality, where even the smallest details will be cared for so as to provide a better service.  
 
The organisers of ALA 2009 also emphasise that Havana, the capital of the largest island of the Antilles, is satisfied with the country’s hospitality, so that all participants take with them everlasting memories of their beautiful island. They hope that visitors feel at home and will gain useful knowledge and experience from 21st Latin American Congress on Poultry Farming.
