Indonesia: Bird flu case in Situbondo and one death in Bali
Recently 30 chickens of backyard poultry in Situbondo, East Java died of bird flu. Rapid test conducted by the agency of animal husbandry of Situbondo regency confirmed that the cause was avian influenza virus.
Head of Participatory Disease Surveillance and Response (PDSR) team of Situbondo regency, Gaguk Musdijianto said that this case had been reported to Local Disease Control Centre (LDCC) in Malang, East Java.
To prevent virus spreading, Musdijianto and his team have been monitoring the distribution of poultry entering and leaving Situbondo. They also have disinfected poultry farms around the location of the case.
“In these control efforts, we have been coordinating with LDCC team, animal husbandry agency and health agency,” said Musdijianto.
One died of bird flu in Bali
The ministry of health recently announced the death of a 12 year old boy from Badung regency, Bali who died on February 21. Laboratory tests confirmed that he died from H5N1 virus. This death is the fourth human death from the virus this year.
