Cobb-Vantress pledges $250,000 to support poultry students
Science students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in poultry science will soon have a new resource to help fund their education.
The Cobb-Vantress Fellowship Endowment has pledged $250,000 over three years and will support students interested in attending graduate school for M.S and Ph.D. degrees in poultry science.
Cobb-Vantress president Joel Sappenfield said advanced educational opportunities were key to future advancements in poultry science.
“We recognise the critical need for talented young scientists in the poultry breeder and poultry production industries,” he said.
The gift pledge was made at the Poultry Science Association annual meeting in Florida recently. The Association has been running a successful capital campaign, “Charting our Course – Securing Future Leadership for Poultry”, which in the past has attracted a range of support from poultry businesses, including Merck Animal Health and Aviagen in recent years.
Cobb-Vantress pedigree geneticist Dr Anu Frank-Lawale said the company is privileged to have the opportunity to support the endowment: “We’re committed to encouraging future generations of young poultry professionals and helping them achieve their greatest potential.”
Recruitment of potential students is expected to start in spring 2020 once the endowment is fully established.
