Nepal is struggling to contain the smuggling of chicks and poultry products into the country from India despite the government-imposed ban on the import of chicks and poultry products.

All poultry products were banned in the aftermath of recent bird flu outbreaks in different areas of the country.



Chicks and poultry products are being smuggled into the country from India through the different border transit points in Bara district. Local police confiscated 1,500 chicks at Gangapur in the district which were being smuggled into the country from India loaded on bicycles.



The chicks have been culled and buried in a pit in the presence of journalists, the District Police Office, Bara stated.
